Pop Up West side

My first blog is going to try and break the concept of Canberra as a really boring place.
In April we had a planning excursion to LDA with Barbara Norman after an overview of the history and issues of Canberra, we went outside for a discussion on what can be done to make lake Burley Griffin a more used space.
After a short discussion a few groups of students came up with a lot of proposals. A few of them where about putting some sort of pop-up precinct to attract more users. Well by the looks of it we where right on the money with that. As last month media and entertainment websites were lit up by the Stomping Grounds Collective's plan of a container village West Side Acton Park on the lake.

The proposed plan which is going ahead and should be open for business the first weekend in October is far from what everyone imagines Canberra to be - boring place. The new container village will be a temporary structure, but a permanent fixture for all the exciting events in Canberra for the next two years. This space is designed to get people in Canberra excited with the new use and the potential of the space around the lake for the future.
